Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Where does your county demographic data come from?

We use data from the 2021 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates, from the US Census Bureau.

  2. How do you know if a jury pool is not a fair cross section of the community?

We use statistical tests, called disparity methods, to determine if a venire is a fair cross section of the county from which it was drawn. They help to determine if there has been a violation of the Sixth Amendment fair cross-section requirement. We evaluate venires on three commonly-used disparity methods.
